Who We Are

Our Story

Kenya Post Office Savings Bank PLC (Postbank) is a wholly Government-owned financial institution incorporated as a Public Limited Company under the Companies Act, 2015.

The Bank traces its origins to 1910 when savings services were first offered through the Savings Department of the East African Common Services Organization. Following the dissolution of the East African Community in 1977, the Government of Kenya established a national savings institution to provide secure and accessible savings services for Kenyans. Over the decades, Postbank has evolved into one of the country’s most trusted financial institutions, serving customers through an extensive network of branches, agents, and digital platforms.

The incorporation of Kenya Post Office Savings Bank PLC in May 2026 marked a significant milestone in the Bank’s transformation journey, strengthening its corporate governance framework while retaining full Government ownership and its longstanding commitment to empowering Kenyans through savings, financial inclusion, and sustainable socio-economic development.

The primary mandate of Postbank is to encourage thrift and mobilise savings for national development through provision of savings services and savings education. However, efforts are already underway to review the legal framework to allow the bank to diversify into credit products while introducing other services.

The bank offers savings and payment services through its own branch network, Mashinani Agents and also through mobile and internet banking platforms.

The governance of the bank is vested in the Board of Directors and the office of the Managing Director, supported by heads of various departments and directorates. The bank reports to the National Treasury.
